FPDP was introduced to the VITA Standards Organization as a draft standard in 1995. The VITA Standards Organization (VSO) is a division of the VMEbus Industry Trade Association (VITA).
On February 11, 1999, FPDP was approved as an American National Standard Institute Standard, ANSI/VITA 17.
