| The
FPDP, which is now a widely used standard in the VME world, is expected
to quickly become equally popular in the PCI and Compact PCI worlds. Released
in the 2nd Quarter of 1999, Interactive Circuits and Systems' ICS-650
ADC board was the first PCI product to use the FPDP. The FPDP connector
is mounted on the top side of the board, leaving the front panel for other
connectors.
PCI Board FPDP connector location drawing (Adobe Acrobat document). ICS is working with other PCI board vendors to ensure that a wide range of PCI products using the FPDP interface are available to to the end user. In the near future, customers can expect to see many different PCI and cPCI products on the market, including DSP boards, which make use of the FPDP interface. The location of FPDP connectors on 6U Compact PCI boards is expected to be the same as currently defined for 6U VMEbus boards (see the ANSI/VITA 17 Standard). However, this is subject to review. |
